Glock’s Dave Sevigny Wins Limited, Crowned Steel Master

PIRU, Calif. – Dave Sevigny, the captain of the Glock shooting team, captured the Limited division title and won the Steel Master event at the 2010 Steel Challenge World Speed Shooting Championships this past weekend in California.

Sevigny started the match Thursday with a strong second place finish in the Open Rimfire match, the first of the three events that make up the Steel Master competition.

The on Friday, Sevigny poured it one to upset defending champion, and Top Shot finalist, J.J. Racaza to win the Limited division. Shooting a model 17L Sevigny won three of the eight stages, the most of any competitor, and finished with a time of 92.64 seconds. Racaza took second, just 1.52 seconds behind Sevigny, with a time of 94.16.

On Saturday, running a Glock 17 built for him by SJ Customs specifically for the Open division, Sevigny won one stage, placed second on two stages and finished third on another to put together his best time ever at a Steel Challenge – 82.84 seconds.

“I came into the match with the goal of winning the Limited and the Steel Master titles. To me these are two of the most difficult because of the depth of competition among the iron sight pistol shooters and having to shoot three guns to take the Steel Master title,” said Sevigny.

“In each of these events there are ten guys at the top tier that can win and finishing in the top five is a huge accomplishment. I’m just happy I could keep focused and stay so consistent from Thursday morning through Saturday afternoon.”

Sevigny’s performance in both the Limited and Open, divisions where the 1911 platform has traditionally reigned supreme, demonstrated the versatility of the Glock platform and proved that, with the right shooter, winning is well within reach.
