Doug Koenig Wins Sixth World Action Pistol Championship

KoenigBianchiCup2014-2Hamburg, PA – Doug Koenig won his sixth World Action Pistol Championship on May 17, 2014 in Kentucky setting a new world record score of 480-45x on the mover and an overall score of 1918-184x. More than 150 competitors representing the United States, Europe, New Zealand and Australia shot the two day intense match. The NRA World Action Pistol Championship match, now in its ninth year, consists of four events, the Practical, Barricades, Mover Target and Falling Plates. The aggregate of each individual’s score in the four events, determines the winner of the Championship and each competitor’s final placing.

With the WAPC and Bianchi Cup scheduled back to back, Koenig purposely intensified his physical fitness training program and devoted additional time practicing at his home town range in Pennsylvania. Arriving in Kentucky a few days prior to the match to familiarize himself with the range, Koenig pushed past unexpected rain, windy days and cold temperatures. Koenig commented, “Staying focused, despite uncontrollable variables, like the weather is a critical component in my overall training regimen, it’s all about the mental aspect to being prepared.”

Winning the Open Division and as a member of USA Team One winning the World Championship, Koenig shot Hornady® 110 grain XTP bullets in his S&W Performance Center 1911 .38 Super DK model. Koenig said, “It was a real honor to represent USA Team One and knowing that each one of my sponsors played a part of my success was essential.”
