Alaska State Friends of NRA is our most outstanding committee

Raising $170,000 in 2011, Alaska State Friends of NRA sits on top

This week the NRA Board of Directors are meeting in Washington D.C. to discuss future initiatives and important minutiae. With everyone in one place, it’s also an opportunity to recognize people, and groups of people, who have been invaluable to the NRA’s support of the Second Amendment.

People like the Alaska State Friends of NRA committee. Located in Anchorage, Alaska, these friends of the NRA are being officially named 2011’s Most Outstanding Friends of NRA Committee for raising the most funds at a single Friends of NRA event last year. Now, since committees are made up of a number of people and Alaska is a decent distance from Washington, their chairman, Denny Hamann, will be the one accepting the award.

“Alaska ranks as a top five fundraising state for Friends of NRA and we are grateful for leaders like Denny Hamann and his entire committee,” said NRA Executive Director of General Operations Kyle Weaver. Weaver was the former Director of Field Operations and has plenty of experience working with not only Alaskan Friends of NRA committees, but all committees across the country.

The Alaska State Friends of NRA handily won this year’s award after raising a towering $170,000 in net income. Hosting a great fundraiser is nothing new to the committee, however, who has raised $812,433 since it began in 1995. During that time more than 5,000 attendees have sat down for their dinners.

“It is an honor to be recognized for the work our Friends of NRA committee does to raise money for The NRA Foundation,” said Hamann. “The best part is when we award the grants. It’s great to see how the funds impact shooting sports in Alaska. The more we raise, the more money we can devote to keeping all these programs running. It’s just that simple, and we all do our part to make it happen.”

The award is part of the NRA’s National Awards Program, established in the 1980s to recognize the exemplary service of those persons who support the NRA in areas such as legislative affairs, club operations, women’s and youth programs, and fund-raising activities.

Congratulations to the Alaska State Friends of NRA and everyone who contributed to their award-winning banquet last year.
