We don’t spend enough time working with the handguns we use for concealed carry. Ed Head, chief instructor at Gunsite, talks about choosing, training and carrying a pocket pistol. We will also talk about a couple of game changers from Ruger Firearms.

Mr. Bane,
At the end of your show on pocket guns, you mentioned that when you carried a strong side belt holster you placed your small gun in your weak hand pocket. I may have missed it if you or Mr. Head said it, but the reason my trusty S&W model 36 rides in my left pocket is to be available if my right (strong) hand is out of action. This could be due to injury, out of position, holding a loved one, or a victim, etc.
In the early ’70s, I was forced to go to “plan B” when a big German Shepherd tried to eat my face off. Plan B was to give him my right forearm for a chew toy and to keep pressing my arm into his jaws while I worked out a solution to the problem. I had a cocked & locked .45 Mk IV Colt in a thumb break holster at 4 o’clock, but could not release the thumb tab. My Gerber folder was in my right pocket also. I was finally able to choke the dog enough to get him off my arm, and a K-9 officer got a noose on him.
After the stitches were removed and I regained use of my arm, I started carrying a small auto or the J-frame in my weak side pocket. I also carry a good folder on each side. If I’m not carrying a full size main weapon and the J-frame becomes the “big” gun, I’ll have my NAA “mouse gun” in my right pocket.
I’ve served many warrants, made traffic stops and arrests with my left hand on that J-frame. Not appearing in an aggressive stance, but ready to react.
Any on-lookers may have imagined the smile on my face was because they thought I was playing “pocket pool.”

I’d love to watch these shooting shows. But you guys keep making deals with the Outdoor Channel. You do realize that 60% of DirectTV viewers DO NOT get this channel with out an additional package purchase. Now I would say that is not your issue but that is why I will not be watching.
Take Guns and Gear on SPIKE as an example. Get on a schedule with a mainstream broadcaster…then we’ll talk.

My wife and I watched the show on pocket pistols and my wife wants a shirt like the one Ed Head was wearing. It had a vertically zippered pocket where he kept his LCP. What is the Brand name of the shirt and do they make them for women?
Great Shows with common sense recommendations.
On second viewing of the video, I see that the shirt worn by Ed Head had a vertically slashed pocket. It is not a zippered pocket but still would like to know the name and model of the shirt.
Tks
ed
At the end of this show he fires supposedly an lcp with crimson trace laser but the slide locks back on the last shot. How is this since the lcp doesn’t lock back or were they using a different gun? I wish my lcp locked back
I’m interested in the shirt too, I’ve made two inquiries and I see that a viewer named Ed, also asked the question–is this shirt commercially available, and can you suggest a source for it, if it is commercially available?
Thanx
John
Say, I was watching the episode and sat up in my chair when Michael Bane made
the comment about going for the reload…..
The second pocket pistol.
WHAT?!?!
I have my CCW and as far as I know, you can carry only ONE pistol legally with
your conceal license. Now, if the SDA has changed, please someone inform me
where and how you can have more than one carry pistol.
Please. Honestly, I would like to know.
