I sit here much chagrined as I contemplate the entire issue of President Trump, and his about face on our 2nd amendment rights. I must admit I was a reluctant Trump voter. I live in MI, and so I knew that I could not risk a 3rd party vote to show my disgust with the other parties, or to support someone with whom I might have liked more, although truth be told, nobody ran any very awe inspiring candidates this last time. I voted for Trump simply because I knew that we could not have Hillary Clinton near the White House, unless it was on her way to jail.
I thought that Trump was at best a lukewarm supporter of the 2nd amendment, and that his sons had not convinced him of anything. But the more I see of Trump, the more I realize that He should never be underestimated. His Democratic foes have done so on several occasions, to their folly. People who think that they can best him in a deal are naive at best. Just like in his other dealings since taking over in the oval office, I suggest that we keep an eye on him, as this race ain’t over yet. If you notice, he has already pulled back on the 21 year age limit for buying long guns. I suspect that is only the first thing to go. I still would not trust him, because he is after all, a politician, but for now, he is the only game in town, and like we used to say, you have to dance with the one that brought you.
I have said before, Trump might not be the smartest person in the room, but you can bet that the smartest person in the room is working for Trump. And also, Trump knows how he won the election, and while the news media yelps and whines that he has abandoned his base, and such, you can bet that he hasn’t abandoned anyone, nor forgotten anyone, and will not sell us out completely.
The ones who can mess things up are the house and senate republicans. They don’t seem to have gotten the memo yet that the people that elected Trump to do a job, also expect the congress to help him do it as well. If they don’t clean up their act, they will be lame ducks, and the control that they enjoyed in both houses will disappear faster than a budget surplus with the democrats in power.
