{"id":4945,"date":"2010-07-19T16:05:26","date_gmt":"2010-07-19T21:05:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.downrange.tv\/blog\/?p=4945"},"modified":"2010-07-20T13:07:57","modified_gmt":"2010-07-20T18:07:57","slug":"3rd-at-single-stack-nats-phil-strader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.downrange.tv\/blog\/3rd-at-single-stack-nats-phil-strader\/4945\/","title":{"rendered":"3rd at Single Stack Nats: Phil Strader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Courtesy of the <a title=\"WomenofUSPSA.com blog\" href=\"http:\/\/womenofuspsa.com\/wp\/\" target=\"_blank\">Women of USPSA blog<\/a>,  this is the third interview in a series with the top five shooters at  this year\u2019s USPSA Single Stack Nationals.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The 2010 Single Stack Nationals \u201cbronze\u201d is taken by Phil Strader.\u00a0  Check out Phil\u2019s interview for some insight and suggestions \u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>3rd Place \u2013 Phil Strader <\/strong>(Team Smith &amp; Wesson,  3-Time Steel Challenge World Speed Shooting Champion)<\/p>\n<p><strong><a class=\"highslide\" href=\"https:\/\/www.downrange.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/2010_SSN_Phil1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4946\" src=\"https:\/\/www.downrange.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/2010_SSN_Phil1-300x199.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>WoU &#8211;<\/strong> Phil, congratulations on your third overall  finish at the Single Stack Nationals!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil &#8211;<\/strong> Thank you, ladies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WoU &#8211;<\/strong> Can you tell us about your mindset as the  match approached?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil &#8211;<\/strong> My mindset wasn\u2019t too much different than  most any other match. \u00a0Obviously, there\u2019s one guy that everyone is  gunning for, and that\u2019s Rob, but I\u2019ve tried to keep my mind on what\u2019s  important and just have fun with the match. \u00a0I feel the reason I do so  well here every year is because I truly have a great time shooting with  Rob and Todd. \u00a0I can only hope that Russ continues to squad us together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WoU &#8211;<\/strong> Well, you\u2019ve certainly earned your spot among  the top!\u00a0 How about your gun and gear, did you have new equipment this  season?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil<\/strong> \u2013 This year, I was shooting a <strong>Smith  &amp; Wesson 1911DK<\/strong> model in <strong>45 caliber<\/strong>. \u00a0I\u2019m  thinking about having a 40 cal built (like everyone else), but I must  say that this pistol <strong>shot really well<\/strong>. \u00a0I may just use  it again next year. \u00a0My belt is <strong>CR Speed<\/strong>, and <strong>Blade-tech<\/strong> holster and pouches.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WoU &#8211;<\/strong> Don\u2019t fix what ain\u2019t broke, huh? Can you tell  us a little about how you train coming into a match like this?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil &#8211;<\/strong> Train? \u00a0What\u2019s that? \u00a0Actually, I practiced  more for this match than any other. \u00a0In the two weeks before the match, I  shot<strong> 250 rounds a day<\/strong> for 4 days each week\u2026yes, that\u2019s  right\u20262000 rounds! \u00a0That\u2019s more than I use to prepare for the <strong>Steel  Challenge<\/strong>! \u00a0I did 90% steel shooting, although it didn\u2019t show  on the stage where I lost the match! \u00a0Oh well. \u00a0Guess next year I\u2019ll  shoot 2500!<\/p>\n<p><strong><a class=\"highslide\" href=\"https:\/\/www.downrange.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/2010_SSN_Phil2.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4947\" src=\"https:\/\/www.downrange.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/2010_SSN_Phil2-199x300.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>WoU<\/strong> \u2013 We\u2019ll talk to Denielle about  loading those extra 500 for you.\u00a0 : )\u00a0 Now, how do you feel you  performed throughout the event?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil &#8211;<\/strong> Overall, I was relatively happy with my  performance. \u00a0It wasn\u2019t great, but I only had a couple of disasters \u2026  and usually that\u2019s the difference! Considering the amount of time I put  into the match, I can\u2019t complain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WoU<\/strong> \u2013 Squadding \u2013 This match has always done it  differently.\u00a0 They mix the Masters and Grand Masters up and split them  across squads and shooting days.\u00a0 What do <em>you<\/em> prefer when  shooting a major match?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil &#8211;<\/strong> I prefer to shoot with the best shooters. \u00a0It  <strong>pushes me<\/strong> to do better, plus I like almost everyone we  shoot with. \u00a0That certainly doesn\u2019t dictate whether I shoot a match or  not, but it\u2019s nice. \u00a0I love shooting the Single Stack with Rob, just  because we usually have pretty good battles\u2026.and he\u2019s so cute and  cuddly\u2026like a big Teddy Bear.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WoU &#8211;<\/strong> Was that off the record?\u00a0 : )\u00a0\u00a0 Back to the  match \u2013 Did you have a standout moment or unique match experience you  would like to share?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil &#8211;<\/strong> I really didn\u2019t do anything that great this  year (unlike last year\u2019s last stage!). \u00a0I just stayed consistently fair  to good. \u00a0Nothing spectacular.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a class=\"highslide\" href=\"https:\/\/www.downrange.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/2010_SSN_Phil3.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4948\" src=\"https:\/\/www.downrange.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/2010_SSN_Phil3-199x300.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>WoU &#8211;<\/strong> Well, you won Stage  9, \u201cI Think I Got It\u201d, and were in the Top 5\u00a0on 6 others.\u00a0 Looks like  consistency pays off, as you\u2019re consistently in the Top 3.\u00a0 So, what  does Phil Strader\u00a0like about\u00a0the Single Stack Nationals?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil &#8211;<\/strong> I like Single Stack because it\u2019s <strong>hard  work<\/strong>! \u00a0Every stage is a <strong>challenge<\/strong> to break  down just right\u2026especially when you shoot different majors that aren\u2019t  exactly designed with the Single Stack shooter in mind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WoU &#8211;<\/strong> We like a man who is not afraid of a  challenge.\u00a0 Congrats again Phil on your 3rd overall!\u00a0 Is there anything  you would like to add?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil &#8211;<\/strong> Yes, there is\u00a0something I would like to  \u201cadd\u201d\u2026I would like to add a <strong>dedicated Revolver Nationals<\/strong> the Sunday after the Single Stack Nationals. \u00a0Just take a target or so  out of each array, keep the stages exactly the same, make it 6 round  neutral, and have a 100 person Revolver Nationals! \u00a0I think it would be a  huge success. <strong>Dedicated division<\/strong> Nationals  Championships usually are! \u00a0Case and point\u2026Single Stack Nationals!\u00a0  Thanks, Women Of USPSA, for the opportunity to respond about this great  match.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WoU &#8211;<\/strong> Hmmm \u2026 interesting idea.\u00a0 \u00a0Thanks for taking  time from your busy schedule to chat with us, Phil.\u00a0 We really  appreciate you taking the time to answer our questions considering you  run the highly successful <strong>Pro Am<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">httpv:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=B-apYApC8_I&amp;hd=1<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Women of USPSA interviews Phil Strader, 3rd place shooter at this year\u2019s Springfield Armory\/USPSA Single stack Nationals.
