They didn\u2019t have as big a concern about that in the past, but now they are thinking, \u2018OK, it\u2019s time. We probably need to get at least a handgun and maybe a shotgun for home defense,\u2019\u201d said Bill Cates, manager of Rocky Mountain Shooters Supply in Fort Collins, Colo.<\/p>\n<p>Read about customers\u2019 preferred defensive firearms, ammunition and accessories in \u201cPersonal Defense \u2014 Arming New Gun Owners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jay Wallace, owner of Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna, Ga., acknowledges turkey hunting isn\u2019t his most profitable hunting segment, but has developed techniques to maximize his sales and boost profit margins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a lot of people in the store already, and we want to convert them to turkey customers,\u201d Wallace said. \u201cIt\u2019s a lot easier to take a deer hunter and turn him into a turkey hunter than to take a first-time hunter and get him involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wallace outlines his strategies to increase the popularity of turkey hunting, plus tells dealers which products are must-haves, in the February feature \u201cRecruiting Turkey Hunters Year-Round.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 39th annual NASGW Expo &amp; Annual Meeting, held in November 2012, was the association\u2019s most successful yet.
