From High Marksman to High Master, the NRA Black Powder Target Rifle’s awards<\/h1>\n

\"\"Raton, New Mexico<\/em> – NRA’s Black Powder Target Rifle Championships<\/a> are made up of three different matches, a Prone Championship, Position Championship and the Creedmoor Championship.<\/p>\n

Both the Prone and Position championships are shot from ranges of 200, 300 and 600 yards while Creedmoor is shot from 800, 900 and 1,000. Together, Prone and Position are the mid-range portion and Creedmoor alone is the long range match.<\/p>\n

This year’s mid-range awards saw a lot of familiar faces and a few new ones. Chip Mate, who won the Position Championship with a 552-10x<\/a>, almost had the sweep, coming in second in the Prone Championship by just five points. Longtime shooter Jack Odor had the better aim<\/a> close to the ground and took the gold in Prone with a 583-14x.<\/p>\n

This was Mate’s fifth Position championship and he has jokingly come to calling the trophy, an actual Scheutzen rifle, “his” gun.<\/p>\n

But there were so many other awards given out during mid-range than for the overall winners. The top competitors of daily aggregates and winners by classification at each distance shot received medals, belt buckles and elaborate bag tags as their awards.<\/p>\n
