{"id":15198,"date":"2012-07-09T10:53:02","date_gmt":"2012-07-09T15:53:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.downrange.tv\/blog\/?p=15198"},"modified":"2012-07-09T10:53:02","modified_gmt":"2012-07-09T15:53:02","slug":"heiden-and-burrows-conquer-the-past-and-set-the-tone-of-the-future-as-national-champions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.downrange.tv\/blog\/heiden-and-burrows-conquer-the-past-and-set-the-tone-of-the-future-as-national-champions\/15198\/","title":{"rendered":"Heiden and Burrows Conquer the Past and Set the Tone of the Future as National Champions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_15199\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15199\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15199\" title=\"heiden\" src=\"https:\/\/www.downrange.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/heiden.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-15199\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 2012 Women&#8217;s Trap National Champion Rachael Heiden took aim during the final.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The 2012 Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Trap National Championship was the year of comebacks as U.S. Olympic Training Center (OTC) Resident Athletes <strong>Rachael Heiden<\/strong> (Clinton, Mich.) and <strong>Brian Burrows<\/strong>(Fallbrook, Calif.) claimed the top of the podium in Colorado Springs.\u00a0 Last year, Heiden and Burrows entered the finals of Nationals ahead of the competition and faltered to finish third and second respectively.\u00a0 Both, however, were determined to rewrite history in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Heiden added a second National Championship title to her growing resume by overtaking <strong>Miranda Wilder<\/strong> (Diana, Texas). Wilder and Heiden were tied at 180 targets after three days of competition, but Wilder emerged a target ahead in today\u2019s qualification with 226 targets for the first position in the final. Heiden gave chase in the final with 22\/25 targets to secure the gold and a spot on the National Shotgun Team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know right away.\u00a0 I dropped the last target and I was looking at the scoreboard to see what the places were, but people were coming up to me and then I knew I was at ease,\u201d said Heiden.\u00a0 \u201cIt was good to come back and I want to thank God, he has helped me get through all of this\u2014it was a tough match.\u00a0 I am also grateful to my parents and everyone who has supported me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Junior shooter Wilder finished with the silver medal at 246 targets, which also solidified her position on the National Shotgun Team.\u00a0 The bronze medalist was <strong>Janessa Beaman<\/strong> (Elbert, Colo.) with 244 targets.\u00a0 Beaman ascended from fourth to third with the highest final of 23 targets.\u00a0 She was followed by <strong>Kate Bonn<\/strong> (Portland, Ore.) in fourth at 243, <strong>Kelsey Zauhar<\/strong> (Lakeville, Minn.) 233 and <strong>Victoria Burch<\/strong> (Kerrville, Texas) 231.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15200\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15200\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15200\" title=\"burrows\" src=\"https:\/\/www.downrange.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/burrows.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"330\" (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-15200\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brian Burrows won his first National Title with a three target margin.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Burrows, also fighting the memory of last year\u2019s performance, entered the Men\u2019s Trap final in the first position and didn\u2019t look back.\u00a0 With 267 total targets\u2014and a clean break on the 25th target in the final\u2014Burrows finished with a three target lead and couldn\u2019t have been happier with his first National Title.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had unfinished business from last year,\u201d said Burrows.\u00a0 \u201cI knew I wanted to solidify it and throw the hammer down and hit it for last year and hit it for this year and end on a positive note.\u00a0 It was a great match\u2014I couldn\u2019t have done it without the support of my family and friends.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been working with a couple of new coaches and I can\u2019t thank them enough for all the help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Veteran shooter <strong>Lance Bade<\/strong> (Vancouver, Wash.) proved he still has the magic touch.\u00a0 Tied with Resident Athlete <strong>Jake Turner<\/strong> (Richland, Wash.) at 264 targets, Bade won the silver in a two target shoot-out and Turner finished with bronze. \u00a0<strong>Collin Wietfeldt<\/strong> (Hemlock, Mich.) shot 21 targets in the final for 261 targets.\u00a0 He was followed by <strong>Jake Wallace <\/strong>(Castaic, Calif.) in fifth at 259 and <strong>John Mullins<\/strong> (Port Orchard, Wash.) at 253 targets.<\/p>\n<p>In the Junior Women\u2019s Trap final, <strong>Erin Danhausen <\/strong>(Swartz Creek, Mich.) won the gold medal with 232 targets.\u00a0 <strong>Ashley Carroll<\/strong> (Solvang, Calif.) finished with 228 targets for the silver medal and <strong>Kayle Browning <\/strong>(Wooster, Ark.) won the bronze with 224 targets.\u00a0 <strong>Rebekah Lowen<\/strong> (Hillsboro, Mo.) was fourth at 218 targets followed by <strong>Brandi Hobbs<\/strong> (Edinboro, Pa.) in fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Resident Athlete <strong>Matt Gossett<\/strong> (Springville, Ala.) won the Men\u2019s Trap Junior National Title with 254 targets for a four target lead on the competition.\u00a0 The silver medalist was <strong>Bradley Beckmann<\/strong> (Chesterfield, Mo.) at 250 targets and <strong>Dakotah Richardson<\/strong> (Godley, Texas) finished with the bronze medal.\u00a0 Fellow Resident Athlete <strong>Garrett Walters <\/strong>(Burr Oak, Mich.) finished in fourth with 248 targets followed by <strong>Lynwood Harris<\/strong> (Camilla, Ga.) at 247 and <strong>Nicholas Scholz<\/strong> (Fenton, Mo.) at 245 targets.<\/p>\n<p>Complete rankings and results can be found on the <a
