Pros:

Mimics centerfire styling and controls. Smooth and solid slide.

Cons:

FTF & FTE

If not for the failure to feed and the failure to eject (depsite the ammo used) I would have rated this a 9.5. I dinged it severely due to the reliability issues as I seldom make it through two mags without a failure or multiple failures. The model I have is the two-tone stainless slide. I am either sending back to Sig or taking to a gunsmith because it is the only 22 I know that mimics centerfire pitols in look and feel. It is important to have the centerfire feel and operation to mimic and enhance centerfire proficiency. I shoot a mag or two of centerfire then pick up the Mosquito and fire a mag...it is incredible how the switch helps highlight and isolate bad habits...my groups have impoved substantially doing this...quickly and at a low cost. The other reasons I recommend purchase...with a paltry 4 of 10....is that a threaded barrel is available and the weapon has a light rail. I intend to quietly use this on small varmints that find their way into my fruit trees at night.

Similar to full-size centerfire

|
Cons:

Could be cheaper...
|

So far so good... I followed the instructions that came with the pistol to use CCIs to break it in. I also did research on the web to see what problems people had, and many people said to break it in with ~500 rounds of CCI and then it should feed most cheaper ammo. I have around 250 rounds of CCI through mine so far with no failures.

Pros:

Good training tool for inexperienced shooters

|
Cons:

It will be difficult to get the suppressor for the threaded barrel

I picked this up at the indoor range barely used. It is the threaded barrel model with all black furniture. As long as you use the recommended CCI mini mag it functions without problems. With various other ammo, I had various other results. Usually failure to eject. Some may see this as a problem, not here. The primary reason for purchasing the Mosquito was to use as a intro to other hand guns, and it has the same controls as my Sig 220. There is hardly any recoil to "surprise" the new shooter and it allows an opportunity for the new shooter to clear a problem while you expect it. All in all a fantastic lead tosser.

Pros:

Design, quality, its a Sig
|
|
Cons:

Limited choice of ammo, trigger

I have several friends that I let shoot my guns (hmmm, wonder if they like me, or that I have a lot of guns). I pay attention to the responses that I get from them. Actually, I pay a lot of attention to facial expressions as much as what the people say. I have a Sig P220 Sport that has people grinning from ear to ear. I don't get that kind of a response with the Mosquito.
I had very high expectations because of good results with other Sig's and expected the Mosquito to be just as pleasing. I was disappointed. The trigger isn't all that good, and it doesn't group very well. It isn't just me because other people have had the same disappointing results with my pistol.
I don't know why I did it, after being disappointed with the Mosquito, but I bought the P220 chambered for 22LR. Much more money, $462, but you get what you pay for. It has a much better trigger, and is full size. It has invoked smiles. Also, I've shot ammo other than CCI mini-mag without any problems.
So, my advice is to spend a little more money and go for the 220 vs. the Mosquito.

I find it a good training gun.
|
|
Cons:

Quite a few FTF (Failure to feed) events, using hollow point ammo.

I have shot about 1500 rounds from my Sig Mosquito. It is a good trainer because it looks and feels like a larger caliber.
I have 2 - 9mm pistols that have very similar controls. It does cost a lot less to train with. I also use it on hikes with snake shot, as it is quite light, and carries well. I am used to the FTF with hollow points. I would buy another one.

some failures to eject...

I bought my sig mosquito for my oldest son for christmas as a handgun to help introduce him to pistols. To me the occisional failure or jam just helps with the tap rack bang clearance drills...lol. The pistol is accurate, the trigger isn't bad at all, and the similiar feel to our 220 will help in the transition later. The 379 seems high to some people, but this is the sport model with the longer sight radius, and it came with 5 mags for gods sake!

I purchased this for my wife as a companion trainer for the Sig P250 I am training her to use as a bedside gun.Even though the manual of arms is somewhat different (de-cocker,safety), the feel is close enough.
First time at the range, she got off one shot and it jammed.I tried repeatedly and got the same result.
Long story short, when I was finally able to locate some CCI's, it worked -on the third trip to the range. This is a very ammo-specific gun, at least in the early break-in period.
Still, I think it will serve the purpose for my wife.

Get this out first off. After 30 years of trying, this is a pistol my wife was willing to try. Yes she took the pink one. But if thats what it takes to interest her in defensive shooting I'll let her bedazzle it to! On the serious side, it has all the controls and safeties of grown up guns and handles well. Yes it occasionally fails to feed or misfires, that just adds to the good training. I was disapointed in the cheap front site however and have lost two so far as they vibrate off durring extended shooting. Sig however replaced them via fed-ex in two days (great service). I have used it so far to teach a total novice how to shoot and they had no problems with a 9 mm after that. All said and done, thumbs up to Sig and thanks to the "Pinky" maybe we will see more females at the range.
