Pros: Grip, ambi. controls, trigger, accuracy, and sights.
Cons: None

Bought on layaway, but could shoot it and turn back in. 300 rds. no cleaning, no noticeable "break in", for 60 days, and never a hiccup. The more I fire it, the smoother it gets, regardless of ammo brand or style. Sight acquisition is quick, and getting back on target is just as quick. Trigger pull is very crisp, easily holstered, even concealed. No snagging hardware. S&W got this model right. Mine is the .40. It's been great right out of the box.

Pros: Feel, Adjustability, design, ammo capacity,
Cons: None yet

It is a very nice feel in the hand, it sits very low in the hand and this helps with recoil. Nice ammo capacity too. Three sizes of grip panels for adjustability is very nice. I added the Crimson Trace lasergrip and it is a very simple install, just replace the factory grip panel.

I bought the .40S&W first, then got the same in 9mm since the ammo is cheaper. Then picked up the 9mm Compact for concealed carry in suummer and backup in winter.

Nice weapon, highly recommended.

Pros: low recoil, nice trigger, quick back on target, accurate.
Cons:

at 10 and 15 yds i shoot 5-6inch groups, with open sights, with the ct-laser on, i can take that grouping down to 1to2 inches, which is a awsome thing to do, i put the targets on my garage wall, kinda like putting kids stuff on the refridgerator.

Pros: The best ergonomical fit for a handgun I have felt, smooth and or reduced recoil.
Cons: Single stack option, Pro Series in 45ACP

I have owned both the M&P 40 FS and compact and simply thought I was in Heaven. However, after firing a friends M&P 45ACP, I quickly sold my M&Ps in 40 and bought the FS and mid-sized M&P 45ACP. I only wish this guy FICA would stop deducting so much from my pay check or I would have the M&P 45 compact as well. You can not disagree the folks at S&W have built a fine handgun and most of all the customer service there is fantastic... I was looking at the XD's, but I am glad I choose an American made Smith and Wesson.

Pros: smooth trigger pull, low recoil, accuracy
Cons: none

Fired 30 rounds through a Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm Compact that I bought for my wife. At 20 feet I was able to put all the rounds into the X and 9 ring. There was little recoil and was able to stay on target. Amazingly accurate. Smith and Wesson hit a home run with this gun. I will be buying more. We fired Remington UMC 115 grain and Hornady TAP 124 grain.

Pros: Great fit, feels right, accurate out of box
Cons: none

Have the M&P 9c & .45 auto F/S. Both accurate out of box, good sight aquisition. Great ergonomics and love the choice of backstraps to fit grip. Serations on slide are fantastic which allows a positive grasp when racking one in the chamber even if hands/slide are covered in mud or wet. S&W ya done good!

Pros: Reliable, accurate, fits the hand very well, American made
Cons: None

I got one of the early ones. Had a bit of a problem with the magazine dropping free on the last round. Sent back to S&W (on their dime), and they replaced the mag release. They also installed a Hi-Viz front sight for free. Haven't had a problem since then despite putting 1000's of rounds thru it. My current one is a FS .40 caliber. Will eventually buy the 9mm compact. Kudos to S&W!

Pros: great CCW, sights, thumb safety
Cons: gritty trigger, no extended mag

M&P40C - Purchased new. Mine has thumb safety, trigger safety. no mag safety. Standard novak sights are steel and very nice. Was comparing this to Ruger SR9C and Taurus 709. Recoil is non factor due to grip angle and design. I prefer the backstrap with the grip going up the dovetail. That fits perfectly into the meat between thumb and trigger finger. Sight dots larger than the ruger, but the raked design is just as easy to draw without catching on anything. Love the roundness of the top of the slide. Similar to the ruger, yet felt lighter and smaller. Trigger took some getting used too. My full size XDM40 is very smooth. This trigger felt a bit gritty, almost mechanical - as if you can feel every little angle of movement in the mechanism. Since it is a CCW for me, lack of an extended reload mag is not a dealbreaker as I think it is important to practice with what you will actually carry. Would be nice at the range for fewer reloads...The pinky grip extension it nice and I haven't had it catch on anything. No mag release problems for me. Overall, it does what it is supposed to do - point and shoot nice groups at 7-10 yards.

Pros: Fit in hand, field stripping, accuracy, durability
Cons: Trigger pull

I purchased my M&P45 about 2 years ago. This is one of the finest pistols developed by S&W and I would match this pistol against any other combat pistol out there (I also own an XD(M) & a Glock). So far I have put 15,000 rounds through this gun without one issue. When you first take it to the range you will notice it’s a bit tight, but after 1,500 rounds it becomes so smooth you will want to shoot it all the time. I’ve put every kind of cheap practice ammo through it with no failures. I have a hard time saying anything negative about this pistol and I continue to be impressed with its reliability. There is only one thing I would change and it’s the trigger pull. You cannot feel the reset which makes it difficult to improve trigger control. However, I heard that if you replace it with the apex tactical sear it eliminates that issue completely. If I had to trust my life to a pistol it would be this one for sure!

Pros: Grip swells, price point, reliability
Cons: trigger pull

I purchased my first M&P used from a "Bought it, shot it once, then it sat in the closet" type of people locally. The gun hadn't even had the factory grease removed and cleaned and only had a single magazine fired through it. I swept it up without a second thought and haven't looked back in terms of a CCW. I am in love with the pistols feel, fit, and finish. It has instilled a confidence in my shooting because I have become so comfortable with it. If I am presented with a shot when the balloon drops I am confident I can and will make the shot over and over again.

I purchased the 4.25" 9mm version with the thumb safety. I am aware that ultimately the trigger finger is your safety but I also love the not only the added piece of mind while it's on my hip but the commonality between drawing it and my 1911 having to disengage the safety on the 4 step draw. I'm used to it therefor it doesn't hinder my speed.

In terms of trigger, giving a quick Google search of 'Apex trigger for M&P' will get that issue resolved quickly. Both my M&P9 and M&P9c have benefited largely from the upgraded trigger along with a local gunsmith doing some polishing and ultimately hand stippling the grips and magazine finger extensions and adding XS sights. The gun has good enough sites from the factory but I like the sight picture of the XS system. In ammunition terms I have found that it seems to cycle a little more smoothly with higher grain Corbon DPX, Hornaday TAP, or DoubleTap ammo and feels a little more accurate over a 115 grain. However, that could be a placebo.

Overall, whether I am carrying the 4.25" version with a cover garment or the compact version in deep concealment in my Comp-tac Minotaur I feel absolutely certain that this pistol will out perform me if god forbid I ever have to defend myself, family, or friends with it. My wife is even a fan of the compact version and is now putting the hers in her carry purse more often than her Taurus 609 these days.
