Poppy seed chicken casserole, cream forty peas, corn on the cob and cake scraps.

I had to look up cream forty peas since I never heard of them or any other cream peas. I know what creamed peas are. Some people call them cream peas but they're not. I saw some recipes for cream peas and places selling seeds. They look like beans to me, like dry beans for making soup. I like just plain peas that you can pick and snack on in the garden, but I like them cooked too.

Plain peas kind of, meh. But split pea soup with ham is delicious, especially with a shot of hot sauce. I like it better than bean soup or lentil soup. I even like the stuff in a can like Progresso as long as it has that dash of hot sauce. And split pea with bacon just doesn't do it for me.

Cream Forty is the variety name and is related to the size more or less. A Cream Forty is smaller than a Cream 80 but slightly larger than a Lady Finger pea. They are basically just a green garden pea that makes a fairly clear soup or juice versus a Purple Hull or Black Eyed variety that makes a dark soup.

This type of green pea is big business and a favorite in south GA.....cooked with ham hock or fatback in the pot.

I had no frame of reference for Lady Finger peas since I never heard of them either, but they look small in the pictures I saw online.

I know very little about cuisine anywhere below the Manson-Nixon Line. Until I was in the army for awhile I didn't know what succotash was. I only knew that it was a funny sounding word, and "Sufferin' succotash" was Sylvester the Cat's catchphrase. They had the food labeled in the mess hall, to take some of the mystery out of mystery meat and other items on the menu. One time they had big pan full of corn and lima beans, and I was confused for a couple of reasons. I had no idea why they would use such a silly name for it instead of calling it corn and lima beans. I was even further confused as to why anyone would ruin kernel corn by mixing lima beans into it. I had lima beans in the hospital once when I was a kid and hated them. I still don't like them and would pick them out if I was served succotash.

I just finished up some flame broiled Italian style meatballs with marinara sauce, garlic bread, and the last of my Italian mix giardiniera. Now I need something sweet for dessert.

Cup of dark roast coffee.  Strong.
