Solar Eclipse
« on: August 20, 2017, 08:41:04 AM »
You guys got any plans for the solar eclipse?

The last one I experienced was a partial that passed through the Gulf of Mexico while I was working offshore...some time in the 80's.  It was pretty cool to see things darken and the navigation lights start on the nearby platforms.

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom.
It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.

Here in Phoenix, it's supposed to be around 65% coverage. I doubt it will even be noticeable. I'll watch it all day on TV. I'm sure stations like the Science Channel, and The Weather Channel will all have really good coverage. They've been planning this thing for months.

Work...but I have one of two windows in the office.  Living in pretty much total darkness for four months of the year with the aurora in Iceland beats an eclipse any day.

Here in Florida we are supposed to get about 85% of the moon's shadow.

Hazcat has his digital camera set up with the proper filters and such to capture the event.

I'll be watching it with him.

My job is to supply the Guiness necessary for the eclipse.  I love my job.

“I’ve lived the literal meaning of the ‘land of the free’ and ‘home of the brave.’ It’s not corny for me. I feel it in my heart. I feel it in my chest. Even at a ball game, when someone talks during the anthem or doesn’t take off his hat, it pisses me off. I’m not one to be quiet about it, either.”  Chris Kyle

It's supposed to be 80% here. I hope I don't forget about it. I'll try looking at it with a welder's mask if I catch it at the right time. I did that in Louisiana in 1980 or 1981 and could look right at it.   8)

I'll go outside and if I see my shadow there will be 6 more weeks of summer.

99.5% in Boise. Lots of tourists coming to town to get in the mystical path of totality. Gonna try and avoid them!

It's OK. They're mostly liberals.
