Pearl Harbor 75th Anniversary Commemoration Ham/SWL
« on: December 05, 2016, 07:59:35 PM »
The Battleship Iowa and the USS Kidd will be operating their radio rooms to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack.  You guys with shortwave radios will be able to pick them up if you give it a try.

The USS Iowa will be operating Wednesday from 10AM until 6PM central as callsign NI6BB.  For voice the suggested frequencies are upper sideband 14.341, 18.141, 21.441, 24.941, and/or 28.441 MHz.

The “gray radio gang” will also operate the Iowa's c1980s radio gear on 40 meters, SSB, 1800-2300 (Noon central until 5 PM central) on lower sideband 7.241 MHz. The transmitters are on Deck 3, and the receivers are on the Main Deck, so stations should ensure they are on frequency before call in. There will be a delay between transmit and receive, due to the receiver recovery time.

QSL information is on the NI6BB QRZ.com profile.

The USS Kidd will be operating as W5KID starting a bit earlier at 9:30 AM central and will wind up earlier at 3:30 PM on the following frequencies: 14.240 14.060 7.240 7.060. QSL. USS KIDD Amateur Radio Club, 305 S River Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70802.

The USS Hornet will also be transmitting as NB6GC from 10 AM Pacific time to 5 PM Pacific time on :
SSB Freq, (KHz): 3.860, 7.212, 14,312, 18.112, 21.312, 24.912, 28.312, 50.112.

The USS North Carolina will be transmitting as NI4BK from 9 AM Eastern until 5 PM.

If anyone knows of other Ham Radio or SWL commemoration please let me know.

Spent 93-96 Stationed in the Barracks. Gave my respects to Pearl Harbor several times. Was a hard place to visit. In 95 at the VJ ceremony got to meet Bob Hope and Six Medal of Honor Recipients. My best friend was on a awesome detail. He assisted the old vets to seating. He stood beside one of the Medal of Honor recipients and the secret service came over while we were doing our pass and review. Granted the pass and review was a twice as long as usual. The secret service told him Clinton wanted to meet him. He told the secret service that Clinton could wait until his boys were done marching by.

That is a priceless story.  The Clinton story is icing on the cake.
