Run Hide Fight
« on: September 04, 2015, 03:56:24 PM »
This a 6 minute video LEOs and security consultants are using to show how to respond to an active shooter.   The assumption is, of course, that none of the potential victims are armed.

The church staff I work with is going to see the video and have our local LEO give a lecture on Tuesday.

My concern is not the nut job who's pissed at somebody at work.  It's the Sunday morning multi-shooter, terrorist attack.  I have worked out several plans depending on whether I'm at the balcony sound board or the basement control room.

Open to discussion.

You should raise the question at that meeting about how the Cops plan on reacting, or if they have considered the involvement of armed citizens.
If they have not considered that they will be set to shoot anyone with a gun and no badge.
There is also the possibility of including armed citizens into their operation for things like guarding or escorting building occupants. This requires minimal training, (if any one tries to kill you or your charges, stop them) and frees up more highly trained professionals to respond to the initial threat.

I have the same concern.  My church is very large and in an urban setting and I've already encountered a few nut jobs.  Thankfully we do have full-time security.  Nothing violent yet but enough to remind me that we live in dangerous times.

Last night, Miss Kitty and I attended another active shooter seminar, this one held by the City of Marietta (GA) PD.  About 600, mostly teachers were in attendance.

Marietta PD teaches a program similar to the one by Cobb County PD.  The one last night was developed by Texas State Univ and is call Avoid, Deny, Defend.   And as they pointed out the words express better what you should do than the other program Run, Hide, Fight.

If I had one take away, its they want you to do something.  Don't just become a victim, by cowering.  Yes, you may die anyway, but take some positive action.

The SWAT/HRT officer who gave the presentation let it be known his wife carries.  He said that CCW isn't for everybody but if you do get training, AND know this.  When the uniforms arrive on scene they won't know who's good and whose bad, so drop EVERYTHING, show your palms and obey all instructions.  Even if you're a plainclothes cop.

All in all a very good session for teachers.  I see a lot of the same material in Best Defense. My wife doesn't want to carry a firearm, but she wants a tactical flashlight.
