You had spoken of the 50 yard pistol shot
« on: August 19, 2014, 01:20:20 PM »
Michael,
Just a few podcasts ago you had spoken of making the critical 50 yard pistol shot.  I have shot 50 yards before, but never with my back up gun, so I gave it a try.  Thanks for all you do Michael.

Here it is with a back up gun on a 9X9" plate.

Excuse my poor video making skills.

That's very cool Gun Papa.

Gabe Suarez believes we should all try out our guns at ranges beyond normal so that in the event it becomes necessary we know what we, and the gun, are capable of.

Will work for ammo

The first thing you need to do when taking the 50 yard shot is ignore the voice in your head saying you can't shoot a handgun 50 yards.  When I went to the Pro-Am a few years back there was a 60 yard shot.  Actually, four poppers at 60 yards.  One day I did it in four shots and the second day it took me five.

If you practice with your handguns in different settings and situations, the 50 yard shot is a cake walk.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

Good shooting.  Any of those shots would have been 'combat effective'.

Thank you.  They were pretty easy hits as you saw.  The barrel to slide lock up on the little Kahr is really tight.  Its like cheating at anything under 15 yards.

Wasn't meaning to ignore what you did or your talents gun papa.  You done good.

In true downrange fashion I was moving three steps ahead and starting to drift sideways.

Well done!

Kahrs are extremely good little guns (sponsor alert!). They're as or more accurate as any of the little pistols out there. At one of Tom Givens RangeMaster's conferences, I shot a pretty good score with a borrowed .380 Kahr, and that included some 15-16 yard shots on small targets from awkward positions. I even passed up using Mas Ayoob's G26 on that stage.
