Are those the ones that make you want to rearrange the furniture ?
I learned something when I was a teenager coming home a bit late when the house was asleep.
My room was at the end of an L shaped uncarpeted hallway. My sisters room then my parents room at the elbow, and my room and the bathroom at the end.
What I found out was that I sub-consciously knew which doors were open in that dark hallway with my first few steps into it. I realized I knew when I noticed I would slow and walk softlier as I approached my parents room when the door was open and not when it was closed. I also "knew" to reach for the bathroom door nob when the door was closed but not when it was open.
Didn't know I knew that stuff till I noticed I was acting on that information.
I'd bet blind folks can tell the "sounds" in a room are different if stuff has been moved around.
I think part of their tapping with the cane is to create echos for navigation.
