Since Marlin was bought out the quality has gone into the dumper. They stopped producing them a couple months ago to fix the QC problems. If you can find a JM marked rifle then buy it,otherwise stay away. I heard the other day that they are starting to make them again, But have no idea how the QC is on them. The Rossi 92's are a great gun once they are slicked up,I used one in CAS for about 6 years before switching to a 73 and 66 Winchester.

Rossi model 92 in .357 Mag. sweet gun. as Haz says, we changed the follower to stainless to prevent issues with breaking plastic. used it last Spring to kill a BIG pig. used a lot of oil to slick her up enough for hunting, but for competition I would follow Haz'z advise and contact stevesguns.

I have heard about the issues with Marlin QC as of late, but to be honest its cost. Another reason for the caliber choice is I  also carry a wheel gun in the same caliber. Be it my GP100,SP101, or my Superedhawk I want to carry only one caliber. Now the follower issue is the first time ive heard of this. Do both .357 and .44mag have this problem?

as long as they have a plastic follower they MAY become an issue. but it is plastic and it WILL break sometime, hope it's not when you are out on a hunt or in a competition. and god forbid you need it during a home invasion. it's the only piece of crap plastic on the gun, so why not fix it before it breaks?

All Rossie's have the plastic follower.  It is NOT a big deal to replace and Steve sells them for about $25.00 (shipped), so not a big expense either.

I have NOT heard of the plastic ones breaking BUT I don't want to take the chance.  It is the only 'weak' thing on the gun so why not replace it and never have to worry again.

Are they weak, or just plastic? I mean there's plastic as in Glock or M-16, and then there's plastic as in made in China POS. Also, it could be that plastic might be self lubricating, like delrin. Just curious.

I was just curious if you ditched them because they seemed flimsy or if it was just precautionary.

the one I replaced was very thin and a bit flexible. yes it probably is 'self lubricating', but it will come in contact with oil and oil does accelerate the break down of other petroleum products.... plastic. why risk it?

It just asked my local gunsmith about this and you guys are right. He's had a few rossi 92's come in with that very same problem and he just replaced the follwer. So It looks this Xmas is going to be a lever gun Xmas. Now I'm thinking about the 45colt. See what happens when I listen to you people. JK ;D
