I stumbled across Randy Cain of Cumberland Tactics the other day. He is offering his Tactical Handgun 101 class nearby to me in October. I've read his credentials and saw he had been a staff instructor/rangemaster at Gunsite.

Has anyone taken a class from him? If so, what are your impressions? Would this be a good way to start my training?

The Tactical Handgun 101 class is a 3-day class devoted to the complete intro to the handgun for defensive purposes. This would be my first training class other than my required North Carolina concealed carry class.

Thanks

I haven't taken a class from him, but a search on "Randy Cain Cumberland Tactics aar review" gets some good reviews:

The last is not complete; you'll have to track down a copy of the magazine or see if they have it on the SWAT Magazine website.

Sounds like good training to me.

I've been away for a while, so this is a bit late. I've trained taken multiple courses @ Gunsite (2), Thunder Ranch (3), The Rogers School (2), and a bunch of other places.
I keep going back to train with Randy Cain. In my experience, no one does the basics better than Randy, although Louis Awerbuck does them as well. Randy's approach is very similar to Louis Awerbuck's, but he speaks louder and in an accent that is more familiar to me.
He has my highest recommendation.

I cannot say enough good things about Randy! He is a superb teacher, excellent diagnostician and an AWESOME gentleman. Highly recommended for training!
