I'm watching a hunting show on OC right now. The show is called Western Extreme. They are hunting Mulies. The guy just dropped one and held up his rifle and said "33 78 will do it every time".
What the heck is a 33 78? Is it a caliber?
-
I am guessing it is either the 33-378 or the 30-378 Weatherby.
-
AHHH! Thanks ccd! I bet it was the weatherby cause it was a fancy looking sucker.
I guess the 30-378 is a propietary cartridge for weatherby?
-
33 and 78 rpm. Remember vinyl?
-
I bet it had a clip !!!!!!!!

Here is a good read on the subject...

Seems like a cartridge looking for a reason. Awfully expensive too.
-
You are correct. He was referring to the Weatherby caliber 30-378.
It is a Weatherby 378 magnum that has been necked down to accept 30 cal. bullets.

As a matter of fact I do, Aerosmith's "Big 10 inch record" was originally a big 10 inch record. ;D

Originally billed as the world's fastest .30 caliber cartridge, .30-378 Weatherby Magnum ammunition will push a .30 caliber bullet more than 3,500 feet per second. Available in 165, 180 and 200 grains. It averages over $100/per 20 rounds. Same case as .460 too to give you an idea how huge the capacity is.

I'm going to develop a "Wildcat" cartridge, the 1010-223, it will be a 62 grain .223 bullet in a necked down 40mm caseing. I'm thinking a compression load of IMR 4350 I think about 3500 grains should do the trick.
Hey MB, want to try a REAL Veloceraptor zapper ;D

Another short magnum? ;) That's almost as good as the .50 BMG necked down to take a Victrola phonograph needle. The diamond tip gives it great penetration. ;D

Can I get them in Hollow point ? ;D
