Title: Gun Goals For 2018
Post by: Rastus on December 31, 2017, 02:56:49 PM
On the firearm acquisition side of things I want an MP5 or MP5 Clone semi-auto in 10MM.

On the firearm accessory side I'd like some night vision.

On the performance side I need to lose 40 lbs which would help all skills....HA.  Doubt that but it could happen.

What's your gun goal for 2018?

Elect a new AG so I can keep the ones I have now!

And, a lever gun in .357...

I didn't plan on buying any more guns, but with the new Ruger EC9s listing for $299.00 I may have to finally get into a 9mm. https://www.ruger.com/products/ec9s/models.html

not so much on the hardware side... I shoot 2 USPSA PCC matches a month, and one PCC/pistol 2 gun match....150 rounds of .22lr each Tuesday at a local indoor range with the Accurate Arms conversion for my G34...couple of rounds of skeet or 5 stand each Friday.... don't shoot much if any 3 gun any more, so have the competition guns pretty much sorted out

I've recently converted to IWB carry for the G43, and think I've finally found the right combination for me...thick, stiff velcro competition under belt, kydex IWB holster, and suspenders to help hold it up... a cotton Columbia fishing shirt for a cover up...

my 4x32 scope has really good light gathering ability, so I doubt an AN/PVS-14 is in my future

would love to loose 40# if my knee is willing... bought a tadpole trike and just about got hit as it sits so low to the ground, so back on the traditional bicycle

I have enough parts lying around to build another AR upper

Same here. I've never owned a 9mm, but am seriously considering a purchase (been a while since I've bought a handgun) for myself and the wife. Our d-i-l has a Ruger and I like the feel of the grip. Our son has a Springfield XD in 9mm and I like it as well. Ammo in general is cheaper now, but 9mm leads the way so it would mean more practice ammo per dollar.

Glock is sending me 2 guns in Jan. Another G19 and a G34 both gen3s. Should be a good month!
Had some work done to the Gold Cup...getting some work re-done since the gunsmith must have had a seizure while I was talking to him. "Bullseye" and "4.5# trigger" are NOT used by me in the same sentence! Since I asked for 3-3.5# I want to know why he put in the parts he did.

I would like to send my NightForce scope in for a reticle change - having the reticle talking MILs and the knobs speaking MOA is a PITA. I didn't know what I needed when I bought it --> Dumb.

Long guns I would like to make my 11-87 a Trap model. Different rib and stock are needed. Rib shouldn't be too pricey but the stock will eat up some coin.
Still much cheaper though than buying a new/different semiauto. My Browning fits perfect but I'm getting tired of the recoil of an O/U. Just can't practice as much with it as I want to.

Rifles are covered for now. Very happy with bolt and semis for the time being.

I bought my first 9mm a while back.  Got an SCCY CX 2.  It's become my daily carry.  I still prefer my .357 wheel gun, but the 9mm fits better.

I think that's the key.  "Fits Better"

On the hardware side a PCC in 9mm and  Outfit my M&P core with a red dot.

Want to shoot in more matches.  Maybe go to ICORE in NV.

Get in better shape of course.

Need a replacement for the XDs - slide release its tearing my strong hand thumb up under recoil.
Contenders are
KAHR CM9 (I have a CW45 I carry a lot - no levers where the thumb is)
Kimber Micro 9 or SIG P938 - I can ride my thumb over the safety
Springfield is releasing a 911 which is on par with the P939/Micro 9 but in .380, so I'll wait for the 9mm to be released.

I'm happy with my long guns.

I want to computer less, and start reading one book a month -
I want to learn a new knot each month
I want to do more with non-powered hand tools - just to see if I can do it like they use to in grandpa's day.

Happy 2018 all.

Take a few more firearms classes. Train with my kids some more. Had my 17 year old son running the AK and AR.

Pretty much met 'em yesterday.  Got the FN Browning A5 of my grandfathers (manufactured 1929/30), a CZ 97BD on order (paid for) and, I just ordered a Dan Wesson A2 Commander.  Loving me the retro look of that gun with the changes Dan Wesson  though the sidearm should have had through the years.  As a combat sidearm that is.

More classes are a must.  The missus is thinking of a Ruger SP101 in .327 Federal Magnum.  I'm liking the way she thinks.

Now you're talking nasty....I like that CZ 97B.  Is the action the same on the 'B' model as the 'BD' model except for the decocker or do you need it to also get the double action?

I only know what I've read of the CZ.  The decocker doesn't really affect the trigger, if I've read correctly.

Picked up a Ruger LC9s Pro a few weeks ago. Installed some Truglo sights and put one of those Talon grip stickers on it. Pretty nice little 9mm single stack shooter.

Just received a Remington 700 5R gen 2 in .260. Bought listed as new from gunbroker. It arrived with a forward action screw which had been over-torqued and snapped off in the barrel and a cap on the threaded barrel which was seriously torqued on. Could not remove it by hand. I think one of those gorillas who doesn't own a torque wrench may have had it briefly. I want to turn it into an accurate  shooter for longer ranges. So far, I put a Timney Calvin Elite trigger in it and set it @2 lbs.. Filed a channel in the HS precision stock and installed an HS Precision detachable magazine. I am waiting on backordered parts: Seekins 20 MOA base and bipod rail. I also ordered some accu-risers from Ernest the Gunsmith and will bed the action with them installed. Not looking forward to the major cost of a decent scope and mount, tho!

My goal is to spend more time on the range working up loads and playing with the Labradar chrony. That thing is awesome. Can verify the advertised BCs of all the hyped up bullets. Also, I have the parts to make an automatic case annealer, but need to put it together. It is like the one featured here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0xE-6bSwME&t=52s

Oh yeah, need to get a job and get back to work!

Anywho, Happy New Year to the loyal members of this forum who are always around but don't feel the need to post much!

I've toyed with it, but have decided to go either the Ruger route or the JP route if the Ruger's not going to be at the store for a while.

My biggest must have are using Glock magazines.   Not a Glock fan boy, I just have a lot of them for competition.  Trying to keep things simple so I don't need to stock yet another set of magazines.

Yes.  Good goals.

Oh and yes, take classes.   Gunsite & Gabe on my must do list.

Grog’s Knots

Good visual app.  Basics to task oriented.  I use it frequently.

1. Go to the range more than 2 or 3 times.
2. Drool over new Ruger PC Carbine.
3. Try to get more WWII rifles.
4. See #2.

Alf... if you already shoot an AR, by all means go with the JP....your short magazines need to be later generation, those with the ambi cuts... a single dot is a good idea... a comp does help

I'm so buried under with work, when I dig out, I'll check on the availability of the Ruger and handle the JP.   Haven't made my mind up.

I think all my mags are either Gen 4 or Gen 5.

you can put together an AR9 with New Frontier Armory billet lower and Palmetto State Armory upper for about $650 ... not including dot and aftermarket trigger...

So I watched Shooting Gallery on the 9MM AR this week.  Pretty cool.  There's a lot to be said for a pistol caliber AR....but I'm still leaning towards that in a 10MM.

   1. New 12 gauge Auto , Tri-Star Viper G-2  in Camo.

   2. Browning Buckmark Camper traded in for S&W Victory.

   3. Lose 40 more pounds.

   4. Build new reloading bench.

I'd like to pick up a pair of the Cimarron New Sheriff Revolver .357 Magnum 3.5" Barrel For Cowboy action shooting. I'm shooting .45 colts now and prefer the .357 because it's so much cheaper to load for.
