Title: It is time...
Post by: Rastus on February 16, 2014, 07:17:44 am
It is time to resurrect Cowboys.

Doubtful as a weekly show but more likely as a quarterly special or perhaps part of a medley of shows.  A medley would be based on a similar format used in the 60's or 70's for the "The Name of the Game" TV series that swapped main characters each week....except this would swap shows like Cowboys and other shows that have either been canceled or reached the end of their productive lives.

I'm just sayin'......

Hey.  I'm gonna say it again MB....see below!

I am going to add my vote for this one.

With the size of SASS and its following, there is a large audience out there.  I also believe that with the number of guns, reloading equipment and supplies, and other investments by shooters, sponsors should be there as well.

"the size of SASS" is miniscule and diminishing by the day nor will it ever ascend again sadly...

As far as membership and activities, I understand USPSA and SASS are about the same size.  The difference is the demographics of the two.  USPSA has been attracting the younger of the two groups, and it drives more sales  of new products.  SASS is an older crowd that is geared more to the total experience over the adrenaline high.

I am active in USPSA, SASS and Bullseye in our region.  SASS and Bullseye both out number the USPSA crowd, but the industry caters to USPSA over SASS, and Bullseye is the redheaded step child that many don't even know exists.

I don't think it is a number of participants that has left SASS out of the mix.  It is the demographics and who is paying to watch Outdoor Channel.

ICORE also appeals to older Jedi.  A few upstarts, but probably minuscule compared compared to the others.   And talk about downhill side there's IHMSA.

Gad, I have a penchant for getting in on things after the peak.

I think that ICORE's issue is that USPSA has a revolver class where you can play the same game along side other classes.  IDPA struggles with the rules that slow it down as opposed to the flash of USPSA.  Once again a modified duplication, but they throw in some limitations.

The USPSA has become the clearing house for pros looking for attention and sponsorship.  Once they have it they fill in with the others to increase their value.  In the recent past several SASS shooters achieved the top and then moved to USPSA and were picked up:  Jessie Duff and Randi Rogers are two notables.

What else has lead to this USPSA focus?  Jim Scoutten has formed a relationship with the movers and shakers in USPSA.  I have attended several national matches, and it is sickening the way the Scoutten crew acts.  I once asked MB why he didn't cover USPSA, and he told me he was sick of being pushed around by the Scoutten crew.  After seeing them in action I understood and don't blame him.  Jim Scoutten has the ratings power in shooting coverage, and he controls the message to a certain point.  As long as his boys push one game, that game will be king regardless of what those of us who play want.

It was nostalgic to watch the SASS Red Dirt Rampage.  I miss Cowboys.

Since I'm in my 21st year of CAS I agree, the game has changed so much it's time for an updated version.
