No Longer Just Paranoia
By Jim Shepherd
For months, anyone who's proffered the position that the Obama Administration was anti-gun has been dismissed as being a variety of things, from sore loser to rampant paranoid. Nonetheless, since assuming office, members of the Obama administration have steadily- and stealthily- moved against firearms and ammunition.

The Department of Defense has issued a directive that bans the sale of military brass to ammunition re-manufacturers.
Without that brass, a very large dent is put into civilian ammunition supplies.
The first word of this latest decision came over the weekend when Georgia Arms' Larry Haynie released a letter notifying him of the new requirement.
For a company with an order in for 30,000 pounds of expended military brass in .223, .308 and .50 BMG, that was not a pleasant notification.
This is why all manufacturers in the firearms industry need to band together. They need to form a cohesive group and inform Congress and the President that enough is enough.
They need to follow the example Ronnie Barrett set in California.
If the government tries to restrict the rights of free Americans through silly rhetoric, stupid decisions, useless and often malicious, self-serving legislation, then the manufacturers should stop selling arms and ammo to the government.
When the public starts buying more ammo than the government, it would send a clear message.
It will not be easy, but it can be done.
Now I have to go write my legislators.

I'd listen to TAB. I mean, he

I've been watching the chatter over at THR thanks to TAB's link. It appears that the DoD or their contractor has flipped around and for whatever reason (citizen uproar?) they have reversed the decision to mutilate brass for calibers .50 and smaller.
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=435840&page=3
From THR website:
You might want to consider this as breaking news...
I don't post a lot around here and most of you have no idea who I am. Fact is, I'm an IT guy. A regular, run-of-the-mill computer jockey. But I happen to work for DOD Surplus/Government Liquidation. I've been told by my CEO that as of this morning the requirement to mutilate expended brass has been lift by virtue of a reclassification from Demil B to Demil Q. This applies to all calibers .50 and under. I'm still trying to get confirmation that .50 cal is included in the "safe to sell" list, or whether mutilation is still required.
I'm busy at work right now, but I will try to post back with more detail and updates when I get the chance.
Ed
More possible good news:

We won!
Here is the poop I just got from Gov Liquidation.
This is the transcript of the live chat I just had.
Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Heidi'
Heidi: Welcome to our live chat service! How may I assist you?
Todd: Hello Heidi
Heidi: Hi!~
Todd: I have been told that all spent brass cases are to be destroyed as part of the EUC.
Todd: I have also heard that this NEW policy is being reversed.
Heidi: That is partially correct.
Todd: What is the truth?
Heidi: That is also partially correct.
Todd: Can you clearify as to what is happening?
Heidi: We received a slight change in the mutilation requirements for expended cartridges. Effective immediately any expended mention 50 caliber(12.7mm) or smaller can be released without mutilation. This includes expended cartridges and links. All other expended munitions larger than 50 cal including grenade fuses and flare canisters etc must still be mutilated.
Todd: So this is fact as of right now?
Todd: Can you tell me the source of who made the chage of the EUC you mentioned??
Heidi: This is for all munitions, not just ones that require an EUC.
Todd: Great! who is the governing body that made the change back to allowing sales of 50 caliber and below without mutilation?
Heidi: This came from the Defense Logistics Agency.
Heidi: If you have any more questions or concerns, please email management.
Todd: Thank you for your time.

Guess the uproar to our Congress people paid off pretty quickly. Someone probably thought they could slip this under the radar screen and was caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
Nice job people! At least those of you that took action!

You know what shocked me about all this... people were flibing out of a email...
What biz ( the DOD in this case is a private company, not the dept of defence) would send just a email when its a mater of being in biz or not? how many times must I tell this to people, ALWAY send it signed receipt, that way you can prove they got it.( hand delvery works too, but is normally not practical) I have yet to see a single hard copy letter or hell even a fax.
