ATF Awards $40 Million Contracts to Glock and S&W
« on: September 07, 2010, 12:53:21 PM »
Glock and S&W were both awarded contracts worth up to $40 million each over the next 10 yrs.

Any federal agency (not just ATF) can purchase from both over the next 10 yrs.

Will be interesting to see which feds buy the most of which guns?

Would that S&W be the M&P series?

I doubt it, lots of agencys buy 3rd gen smith autos.  They are tough as nails.

ATF solicitation was for a weapon system consisting of a DAO or striker fired polymer framed pistol in full and compact sizes, .40 caliber.

Except that S&W has basically stopped making them after releasing the M&Ps.  The only all metal pistols in the current catalog are the 1911s.

For Glock, it's the G27 and Gen4 G22.

No, this was a DAO/Striker fired polymer framed .40 caliber full size and compact _pistol_ weapon system solicitation.

Glock 22 Gen4 and G27 from Glock, the M&P40 and M&P40c from S&W.

Up to $40 million over 10 yrs for each (Glock and S&W) open to _all_ federal agencies, not just ATF. They are IDIQ (indefinite delivery - indefinte quantity) one year contracts w nine option years.

It's unlikely both contracts are fully executed, but with over 85,000 armed federal agents, ya never know... if you want a .40, easier to buy off this contract than go through the hassle and expense of running your own tests. So now all those guys and gals in DHS who have SIGs and HKs have a shot at getting Glocks or S&Ws too.

Gives the stamp of approval to the new Gen4 Glock too. This consisted of a 20,000 round endurance/reliability test (including thousands w light attached), drop test, plugged bbl test, heat test, sand test, corrosion test, etc.
