BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Officials with the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) today announced that one of the most recognizable names in the manufacture of fine custom-built 1911 pistols, Wilson Combat, will be a returning sponsor of the Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship.
The 2013 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship will take place February 21-23 on the indoor ranges of the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.
“IDPA has enjoyed a long and close working relationship with Wilson Combat, which was also founded by IDPA founder Bill Wilson. We’re extremely pleased to have the first name in defensive pistol shooting back as a major sponsor of one of IDPA’s most important matches,” said Robert Ray, membership and marketing director for IDPA.
Wilson Combat joins Brownells, Comp-Tac Victory Gear, GLOCK, Mossberg, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Panteao Productions and match host Smith & Wesson as a major sponsor of the competition. In addition to sponsoring a shooter hospitality suite during match check-in, Wilson Combat will be represented in the competition by the current IDPA Custom Defensive Pistol National Champion and defending Smith & Wesson Indoor Nationals CDP champ, Glenn Shelby.
“Wilson Combat is proud to be one IDPA’s longest and most reliable sponsor partners in the firearms industry. Thousands of IDPA shooters rely on Wilson Combat pistols for both personal protection and competition, which is why we strongly support IDPA and matches like the Smith & Wesson Indoor Nationals,” said John May of Wilson Combat.
Regarded as one of the finest competitive shooting matches in the country, the Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship represents the official start of IDPA’s competition season. More than 300 of the sports’ best shooters are expected to compete for titles in Custom Defensive Pistol, Enhanced Service Pistol, Stock Service Pistol, Stock Service Revolver and Enhanced Service Revolver, the five divisions within IDPA.
