What is the School Attacker Response Program and how can it help Teachers and Students?

SARC_full_transparentThe SARC Program is primarily meant for teachers and staff in the US public school system. It is a step beyond the “hide & hope” policy at most schools.

While others are looking for ways to place armed professionals on campus, take the steps necessary to educated and responsibly arm school staff members or find ways to lower the chances of violence occurring in schools, SARC is offering solutions that will empower Teachers and Students NOW. The attacker is now on campus. The answer is not to delegate an individual’s safety to someone else; it is to make them responsible for, and capable of, defending themselves.

This seminar is being offered for free by a coalition of Certified Instructors to public school faculty and staff in order to give them practical alternatives to the “Hide & Hope” strategies that are commonly being provided.
The seminars last from 2-4 hours and can be taught during or after school hours.

Topics will include:

  • Overview of typical School Attacks…”Let’s Remember that these events are INCREDIBLY RARE” …     “The reason we reference incidents from the past is that these attacks are far from common and they are incredibly sensationalized because of the emotional components of the scale of the tragedy.”
  • Escape & Evasion… “Teach your students that IF they hear or see shooting at your school: GET AWAY.  Go around as many corners or behind as many doors as they can.  Windows and a one story drop may not be a big deal if the bad guy is about to break through the door.”
  • Barricading… “Get out of the way and out of sight.  Lock and/or block doors if you can.  ‘Hiding’ might be as simple as remaining still and quiet in the corner of a room with a looked door, or a corner that can’t be seen through any window.”
  • Improvise Defensive Tools…”It could mean a fire extinguisher, a chair, a heavy book, a bat, a broom, a bucket, scissors…virtually anything you have available to you.  You will learn to get the thought process going for you and your students to think about what can be used as defensive tools.”
  • Empowering Others to Act…”Tell your children to fight.”
  • Unarmed Defense…”Tell your children to do whatever they can to survive.”
  • Group Defense Response…”Tell them to recruit others in the effort, and if nothing else, swarm the bad guy.”

Students and Teachers CAN make a difference!

Students and Teachers CAN make a difference!

From one of our attendees at the Instructor Development course:

“Thank you to everyone one involved in making this happen. Rob thank you for teaching me to expand and change my perceptions as a teacher as to what truly is the best ways to help my students and other teachers and classes in the event we ever get caught in some crazy person’s insanity. I can’t wait to eventually becoming a certified instructor and being a part of this training to empower other educators!”
