North Scott Trap Team Wins Varsity Div. National Title In Doubles Trap

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Iowa’s North Scott Trap Team claimed a second national title in Doubles Trap, this time in the Varsity Division, during competition at the 2016 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships.

The North Scott shooters combined to break a total of 906 of 1,000 targets. Eric Long of Davenport led the effort with 189 targets, followed by Andrew Troje of Donahue with 184, Drew Bjustrom of Eldridge with 182, Michael Mohr of Long Grove with 179 and Kyle Coomer of De Witt with 172.

Second place in the division went to another Iowa team, the Maquoketa Cardinals, who finished with 887 total targets. Lane Dundee of Maquoketa led the squad with 189 targets with fellow Maquoketa shooters Samuel Fowler and Kaden Waack breaking 188 and 175 each. John Patrick Crowley of Delmar fished with 173, while Isaiah Miller of Baldwin added another 162 to the team total.

The Lake Oconee Shotgun Team from Georgia took third in the event with a total of 879. Jasper Copelan of Eatonton led the team with 191 targets, followed by Mitch Marsh of Hillsboro with 180, Taylor Hyatt of Greensboro with 175, Guy Nelson of Bostwick with 169 and Julianna Johnson of Sparta 164.

Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
