Port Clinton, Ohio – With a final score of 2383-171x, Specialist Joseph Hall of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit captured the 2013 NRA Smallbore 3-Position Rifle title in Camp Perry, Ohio. Besting fellow U.S. Army Marksmanship teammate Jason Parker by a total of three points, this is Hall’s first overall title at the National Championships.

“For me this was one of my come back matches,” said Hall.

Though from a family rich in the shooting tradition, despite mom’s initial objections, Hall stepped away from behind the trigger and started working a “big boy job”. It didn’t take. Soon enough, his desire to get out on the field was too great to ignore. There was still something left to prove.

“I wanted to come back and shine. So I just stuck with my plan, did exactly what I knew how to do, and not a second went by that I wasn’t trying to concentrate my hardest. Everything just fell into place.

“All the training, the goals and the shooting really paid off. When the coach came up and said you just did everything you said you were going to do, it felt phenomenal.”

Shot ever summer at the Ohio National Guard base known as Camp Perry, the Smallbore 3-Position Championships are made up two separate phases — Metallic Sights and Any Sights. During each phase, shooter fire their smallbore rifles from the standing, kneeling and prone positions. Out of a possible 2,400 points, Hall missed (or dropped) a mere 17.

Heck of a way to come back and shine.
