Area 6: Notes from Saturday

Standing Room Only….Saturday saw a much larger contingent of shooters on the range which is to be expected with such a well attended match. Squads 1-6 shot the entire match on Saturday which kept them on the range until after 8:00pm, making for a very long day. The rest of the squads split the match between Saturday and Sunday which is the best way to go but also the most sought after slots during registration.

The Boys In Blue….That’s U.S. Air Force blue. The USAF shooting time shot on Saturday, refusing to let the AMU steal all the military competition glory. More on the USAF squad, including pics, later on.

Max’d Out….Looks like Max Michel has won the Open division – for the 7th year in a row. Preliminary scores are posted on USPSA, and while it’s true the match is not over and there is always a chance somebody could pull off a surprise, it’s about 99.9999999% over. KC Eusebio took second and Chris Tilley finished third. Final, and official, scores will be posted later today once the match concludes.

Who Needs The Extra 2 Rounds?…So says Bob Vogel who sits atop the Limited division standings ahead of Shannon Smith in second and Travis Tomasie in third. Vogel shot the match with a Glock 24 which, depending on the mag he uses, puts him at a 1-2 round deficit. BTW, Vogel was back on the job ion Ohio protecting a serving on Saturday.

Who’s Your Daddy….Jessie Abbate bested hubby Billy Abbate, a strong shooter in his own right, by about 3 seconds on stage two Saturday evening. Jessie’s shooting ability continues to impress, and humble.

Speaking of Husband & Wife….Randi Rogers of Team Glock and husband Keith Butler were out on the range watching the match after having finishing their shooting on Friday. Most shooters beat feet out of town after they shoot but not Randi and Keith. BTW, this is another couple where the wife humbles the husband, but Keith takes it in great stride.

Same Old, Same Old In Production….Team Glock’s Dave Sevigny tops the leader board in Production….AGAIN. Gordon Carrell of Team S&W holds down second and Jason Koon of Team Sig sits in third. Still have GMs Rodney May and Chuck Anderson with unfinished match scores so we could see come movement at the top, though unlikely top dethrone Sevigny.
